Mashuq Mushtaq Deen is a resident playwright at New Dramatists, a Playwrights Center CORE Writer, and a Lambda Literary Award Winner. His full-length plays include Flood (covid-cancelled production at Kansas City Rep 2021), The Empty Place (commission, workshop production at NYU), The Betterment Society (upcoming publication, Methuen Books), The Shaking Earth (covid-postponed production at National Queer Theater 2020; first runner-up for Sulthan Padamsee Playwriting Prize, India), Draw the Circle (productions: PlayMakers Rep, Mosaic Theatre, Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre; published: Dramatists Play Service; winner Lambda Literary Award), and Tank & Horse (world premiere: Berkshire Fringe Festival).

He is a member of the NYTW Usual Suspects, Ma-Yi Writers Lab, founding member of the Public Theater Alumni Writers Group, and the Dramatists Guild. He earned his MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School/New School for Drama. He is represented by the Gurman Agency. In his spare time, Deen is a man of many hobbies.

Our StARTers presenter on Oct 19th will be Nina Papaconstantinou, Fall 2021 resident artist at the Siena Art Institute through the SNF-SART residency program, co-sponsored by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. 

Born in Athens, Greece in 1968, Nina Papaconstantinou studied Greek Literature in Athens and Visual Arts:Drawing in Camberwell College of Arts, London. In 2015 she was artist-in-residence at the Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies in Princeton University.

Her work is mainly an investigation of the relationship between text and its image.

Our latest resident artist at the Siena Art Institute is Tania Saleh, coming to Siena from Beirut for October-November 2021!  Join us on Tuesday October 26th for an artist's talk (in English) both in person at the Siena Art Institute and live streaming on our Facebook page and YouTube channel at 6pm Siena / 7pm Beruit and Athens / noon NYC.   This talk will be a wonderful opportunity to meet the artist in person and to learn more about her creative process.

(Note: for our in-person audience the covid Green Pass is required and reservations are recommended as space is limited)

The Lebanese singer/songwriter/visual artist Tania Saleh has been one of the most central artists in the Arabic alternative music scene since the nineties. She has never stopped seeking new connections with countless other art forms, mixing traditional music forms with an ever expanding pallet of new impulses.

Throughout her career, she has released 5 studio albums and 2 live albums and cooperated with a who’s who of Lebanese and international artists. In 2018, her audiovisual album “Intersection” was launched with a 15-minute film as an ode to Arabic poetry, calligraphy and street art.

Tania drew all the murals and wrote the music to almost all the poems. “Intersection” has won the German Record Critics’ Award for 2018. Also, Tania has been awarded the Lebanese American University Lifetime Achievement Award for 2018 for her outstanding work in the visual and musical fields for more than 25 years.

As a visual artist, she was part of various workshops and residencies around the world and as a singer/songwriter she performed live in various venues locally and internationally:
The Roxy, U.S.A. - The Barbican and Liverpool Philharmonic, U.K. - Stallet, Sweden - Wasla Music Festival, U.A.E. - Dar, Kuwait - The Opera House and Cairo Jazz Festival, Egypt - Oslo World Music Festival and The Nobel Peace Center, Norway - Visa for Music, Morocco - Byblos International Music Festival and Music Hall, Lebanon - Institut du Monde Arabe, France - La Mercè, Barcelona and many more. Her latest animated single "Ya Reit" (I Wish), was released in 2020, a song she has written, illustrated and animated during the lockdown period. Her 7th album entitled "10 A.D.” was released in 2021, co-produced by the Norwegian label KKV.
