Projects by resident artist Mo Abd-Ulla
Iraqi resident artist Mo Abd-Ulla has created a pair of art projects marking the conclusion of his Spring 2022 residency at the Siena Art Institute: ‘Memorial for the Unknown Artist’ and ‘I Swear The Stone Tells The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But The Truth’ which were inserted within the exterior of the Siena Art Institute entrance.
In describing the project, he has written, “I propose that the clay sculpture remains on the spot until it resolves by rain, sun and wind, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, clay to earth.” On my visit to the Archeological Museum in Siena, I saw some copies of sculptures that demonstrate how nature contributes to the sculpting process ‘naturally’.
