2023-2024 Academic Year Calendar

With time flying by, here is an overview for our 2023-2024 academic year at the Siena Art Institute, in partnership with our sister school, the Siena School for Liberal Arts

Fall Semester 2023 (Sept 11 - Dec 8, 2023)

  • September 4-8: Online intro unit group meetings, focusing on preparation for your arrival in Siena
  • September 11: Students meet the school staff at Florence’s Peretola Airport and depart for orientation. We ask that students arrive by 2pm in time to meet staff at the arrivals area by 3pm at the latest.
  • September 12-13: Orientation activities & arrivals paperwork
  • September 14-16: Intensive coursework for Italian language
  • September 18: Semester elective courses begin.
  • October 25-26: Mid-term exams and critiques
  • October 27-Nov 1: Mid-term break. 
  • December 2: End of Semester exhibition opening 4-6 pm.
  • December 4-6: Final exams and course critiques.
  • December 6: Final Luncheon.
  • December 7-8: Departure. (You are responsible for your own return transportation.)

Spring Semester 2024 (Monday January 29 - Friday April 26, 2024) 
Application priority deadline Nov 1

  • Jan 22-26: Pre-departure online orientation meetings and Italian language intro.
  • Jan 29: Students meet the school staff at Florence’s Peretola Airport. We ask that students arrive by 2pm in time to meet staff at the arrivals area by 3pm at the latest.  Note: For U.S. students this means catching a flight on Sunday Jan 29 to arrive to Italy on Monday Jan 30.
  • Jan 30-Feb 2: Orientation & Intensive Italian intro
  • February 3: Intensive Italian quiz
  • February 5: Elective Courses begin
  • March 13-14: Midterm exams and critiques
  • March 29-April 1: Long weekend break (Easter Sunday March 31)
  • April 20: End-of-Semester Exhibition Inauguration 4-6pm
  • April 22-24: Final Exams and Critiques
  • April 24: Final Luncheon
  • April 25-26: Departure (You are responsible for your own return transportation.)

Note: Without reducing instructional contact hours, we have slightly compressed the dates of our standard semester to 89 days.  With this calendar fitting within the 90-day limit for Americans to travel to Italy without need for a visa, this allows American students the convenience of travelling to Italy without the need for visa paperwork.
