After the success of the first edition of the project, we are happy to announce the Siena Art Institute will be able to award 4 more deserving art students and recent graduates with a scholarship for Spring 2026. Selected candidates will be enrolled in the Siena Art Institute’s regular semester while also participating in THE PEACE ROOM project.

THE PEACE ROOM PROJECT
The Peace Room is an interdisciplinary project and an innovative pilot academic program developed by the Siena Art Institute to investigate the relationship between intercultural dynamics and local experiences, personal connections and international relations. The Peace Room is partitioned in modules, each directed by a separate Lead Artist and teacher:
- Art & Society
- Art & Memory
- Art & Mycorrhiza
The interdisciplinary project will facilitate the development of site-specific and community engagement art practices by art students in dialogue with professional artists, architects, artisans, educational institutions and museums, leading to the creation of a collaborative public event that will constitute THE PEACE ROOM.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Tuition for classes taken from the Siena Art Institute Spring 2026 semester program;
- Participation in THE PEACE ROOM project in the context of the Toscanaincontemporanea2025 initiative by the Region of Tuscany;
- Accommodation in a room shared with another participant in Siena, Italy. Please note that Siena is a hill town where most motor vehicles are banned from the city centre. Participants will be required to walk 15 to 35 minutes on uneven Medieval streets to get from their accommodation to studio spaces and classrooms;
- Shared studio space at the Siena Art Institute, available from 9.30 A.M. to 7.30 P.M. Studios can’t be accessed out of opening hours and without staff supervision;
- Travel allowance (up to 120€);
- Materials allowance (up to 100€);
- Italian language course (offered at intro and intermediate levels);
- Interdisciplinary 3 modules course;
- 1 extra art/craft course;
- Mentorship by professional artists and educators;
- Participation in 2 public events to showcase works in progress and to present your research to the public;
- Participation in an international, multilingual, multicultural environment hosting art students and artists from around the world.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for 4 young future artists with the following traits:
- Are currently enrolled in University-level art courses or are recent graduates (graduated no earlier than January 2024);
- Have a good understanding and command of the English language, as most classes and activities at the Siena Art Institute will be led in English;
- Are interested in learning Italian to more directly engage in the local community;
- Are able to study and work in a multilingual, multicultural environment where collaboration with people from all backgrounds and nationalities is encouraged.
Preferred candidates have:
- A portfolio showing a deep interest in cultural and societal issues such as trans-cultural communication, environmental sustainability and/or community engagement;
- An interest in Italian culture and language.

SEMESTER SCHEDULE
Arrival:
January 26, 2026, 2:00 p.m. in Siena.
Departure:
April 23, 2026, 10:00 a.m from Siena.
Look at the whole Semester Program at this link (updated in real time). You may expect around 14 to 20 hours of classes and project work each week. Please note that participation in all scheduled academic and project activities is absolutely mandatory for all participants.
The semester is 89 days long. Contact your national Italian embassy or consulate for information about specific Visa requirements and procedures.
Please note that student Visas don’t usually allow for independent travel in the Schengen Area before or after the duration of the program. Inquire with your national Italian embassy or consulate before finalising any travel arrangements.

The selection of participants will be at the sole discretion of the project selection board. The Siena Art Institute reserves the right to require additional information or documentation from candidates and to not select anyone should candidates be deemed unsuitable for the project.
