Camille Piron is one of our European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteers and here she shares her experience of living in Siena and working at Siena Art.

A summer volunteering in Siena by Camille Piron:

After I graduated, participating in a European Solidarity Corps project seemed like a great opportunity to grow professionally and personally while being immersed in another culture and meeting people from around the world.

Sart’s projects and missions really resonated with me. Having studied art history, taking part in a volunteering project promoting art, inclusivity and community made complete sense to me.

I’m grateful to have the opportunity to live in Siena for six months. The medieval houses, the narrow streets and the view of the Tuscan countryside will undoubtedly remain as some of my favorite memories. It’s a unique experience to be able to live in a city so filled with history and tradition. Being in Siena feels like being back in time and yet the city is lively and the people welcoming.

Being a volunteer at Sart allows me to learn and experiment in different fields, to meet and interact with artists, students and professionals from the art world, as well as the inhabitants. It's truly a wonderful experience to be surrounded by creativity and art all day.

So far, spending the summer in Siena has been very fulfilling. I've enjoyed being a part of different projects and learning from people working in communication, event organisation and even permaculture. These first months have been rich in experiences both on a professional and personal level.

I’m looking forward to the rest of this project and all the learning opportunities to come!
