We are pleased to introduce our current Artist in Residence, Molly Murphy, to the Siena Art Institute community. Having arrived in Siena just two weeks ago, Molly has already begun exploring the city as well as getting to know the spaces of Il Punto.
On Tuesday evening, we invite you to join us at Il Punto / The Point for an informal conversation with the artist, accompanied by our signature Aperitivo. During the talk you will learn more about Molly Murphy’s artistic practice, including key themes and projects from her past work, as well as the ideas she’s developing during her residency in Siena. She will share her thoughts on how this work may evolve once she returns home, offering insight into the ways international residencies can foster new perspectives and ongoing artistic dialogue. We look forward to welcoming you for an engaging evening of exchange and Aperitivo!
About the Artist
I am passionate about the enduring power of textiles to recall human stories. I make new artworks out of long-neglected fabric. I like the way I can use the tools and practices of traditional quilt-making to push against the limiting boundaries of established art, gender, and craft categories.
Molly Murphy
Mollie Murphy received a BA in English Literature from George Mason University and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University. Solo and group exhibition venues include Mixed Greens Gallery, NYC; The Arts Council of Princeton, NJ; the Soap Factory, Minneapolis, MN; CollectiCo Gallery, NYC; Galapagos Artspace, Brooklyn, NY; City Without Walls, Newark, NJ; The Jersey City Museum, Jersey City, NJ; Phoenix Gallery, NYC; apexart, NYC; and 301 Gallery, Beverly, MA. Mollie has been awarded residencies at Cowhouse Studios in Wexford, Ireland, Vermont Studio Center, Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts, Kansas City Art Institute, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the American Academy of Rome. Mollie was a 2025 awardee of a 2024 Windgate Fellowship for Excellence and Innovation in Crafts at Hambidge Center for the Arts and Sciences in Rabun, Ga. In 2025, she received and Artist Fellowship form the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She lives and works in Princeton, NJ.
