City Arts is back: art and craft courses around the city for curious minds! Same format, with a few new additions: this year the courses are open to everyone, including the introduction of a new art course for children. City Arts courses focus on hands-on practice in a stimulating, international environment.

The courses are open to beginners and enthusiasts alike, offering the opportunity to work closely with professional artists who bring extensive experience and strong teaching skills. As always, the courses are hosted at Il Punto / The Point, the home of SART, at Via E. S. Piccolomini 2, Siena.”

Ceramics – For beginners

Teacher: Jacqueline Tune
Discover your creativity and explore your hands-on skills with clay. Have fun creating artistic pieces while experimenting with the many techniques of ceramics, decoration, and glazing. Let the materials inspire you and explore the connections between the contemporary world and Siena’s historical traditions.
The course is divided into two groups, for beginners and advanced students. No specific prerequisites are required for the beginner course. Simply let your imagination guide you as you design a functional or decorative object and shape it using the tool we know best: our hands.
Each participant will be encouraged to explore different ways of working with clay, from basic techniques such as pinch, slab, and coil building to more complex pieces, sculpture, and wheel throwing. Participants will also learn surface decoration techniques and will be able to use engobes, underglaze colors, and glazes provided as part of the course.

Silversmithing

Teacher: Maria Laura de Tanti
Discover the art of jewelry making and immerse yourself in shaping metals and wax to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Experiment with a range of techniques, from traditional wire and sheet metal work to wax modeling, and let the materials inspire you as you transform an idea into a special piece of jewelry made by your own hands. With the guidance of a professional metal sculptor, each participant will learn the essential tools and techniques of jewelry making and create a piece that reflects their personal creativity.

Creative Writing

Teacher: Jeff Shapiro
In this Creative Writing course, the first weekly meeting is dedicated to a group discussion of key writing concepts, supported by literary examples. Students complete writing exercises at home related to the topics covered. During the second meeting, participants share, read, and discuss their work in a workshop format, fostering an environment of exchange and constructive feedback. Designed to improve all forms of writing, the course is open both to aspiring writers and to those who do not consider themselves writers, and it encourages a collaborative space for growth and exploration of writing.

Oil painting

Teacher: Franca Marini
Explore the art of oil painting and discover traditional techniques through direct observation. The course combines studio practice, live demonstrations, and references to art history:from Early Renaissance masterpieces to Modern Art, placing your work in a broader context.
Through observation and experimentation exercises, the course will guide you in learning essential tools and materials: brushes, palette, pigments, and mediums. You’ll delve into chiaroscuro, color theory, and pigment mixing, honing your ability to translate reality onto the canvas.
The course is open to everyone: beginners will learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting from life, while experienced students can develop a personal expressive style through a tailored learning path.

Art for kids

Teacher: Fabio Alessandri
A trained musician, educator, and trainer, Fabio Alessandri has been active for over forty years in the fields of pedagogy, social education, and anthroposophy. A scholar of Rudolf Steiner’s work, he has translated key texts from German. He has worked as a teacher, educator, puppeteer, storyteller, and playwright, collaborating with schools, universities, theaters, and cultural organizations in Italy and abroad.
He is the creator of adult education programs, educational projects for children, research on cooperative games, and seminars on intuitive pedagogy. He continues to work as a trainer, pedagogical consultant, and storyteller, collaborating with various educational institutions in Tuscany. In recent years, his work has gained renewed visibility through his collaboration with Sara D’Onofrio.
