Deaf Studies in Siena
Since 2005, the Deaf Studies Department has worked with Italian and American Deaf and signing communities in providing exciting opportunities for students and professionals alike. Through close collaboration with top professionals in the field, our programs allow ASL users access to transnational Deaf and signing communities through learning Italian Sign Language (LIS), and Italian Deaf Culture & History.
To cater to different levels of knowledge and interest, we offer two different programs: a two-week one specifically designed for adult professionals and a three-week one designed for undergraduates.
3-week Study Abroad for Deaf & Signers
This exciting three-week summer program offers signers an opportunity to engage in a Deaf-World that expands beyond America. This immersion program provides ASL users a foundation for transnational engagement that invites a fresh perspective on ASL as a visual and spatial language. Additionally, students will take basic Italian, providing them a tool to better navigate life in the city of Siena.
