Martha Collins is the author of eleven poetry collections, most recently Casualty Reports (Pitt Poetry Series, 2022) and Because What Else Could I Do (2019), winner of the Poetry Society of America’s William Carlos Williams Award. Her earlier books include Blue Front, an Anisfield-Wolf Award winner, and a trilogy exploring race and racism. Collins has received fellowships from the NEA, the Bunting Institute, and the Lannan Foundation, among others, and her work has earned multiple Pushcart Prizes and Ohioana Awards. A noted translator, she has co-translated five volumes of Vietnamese poetry, most recently Dreaming the Mountain (Milkweed, 2023), and co-edited Into English (Graywolf, 2017). Founder of the Creative Writing Program at UMass Boston, Collins has also taught at Oberlin College and Cornell University. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and leads short-term poetry workshops internationally.
