Maelee Lee is a South Korean contemporary visual artist specializing in installation art and painting, whose practice addresses feminist issues, gender identity, and the social roles of women within Korean society. Born in Gangjin, South Korea, Lee is a contemporary media artist and adjunct professor of art at Mokpo National University, where she earned her BFA, and at Chosun University, where she completed her MFA and PhD in Fine Arts. Lee is widely recognized as a prominent feminist artist in Korea, yet her work resonates internationally through its focus on deeply human and universal themes. She has exhibited extensively worldwide, including in New York, Beijing, Bulgaria, and Greece, and has participated in major international biennales and art festivals. Notably, she took part in the prestigious Gwangju Biennale in 2012 and received the 2012 Sofia Paper Art Fest Award. In the United States, her work has been shown at venues such as the Chelsea Art Museum and the Elga Wimmer Gallery.
