John Monti

Summer 2024

John Monti is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and educator whose work explores the tension between beauty and melancholy through lush, metaphorical forms. Inspired by botanical illustration, Baroque ornament, religious icons, and custom car culture, his vibrant resin sculptures evoke surreal, psychological landscapes. Monti has exhibited widely in galleries and museums, including the Brooklyn Museum, SculptureCenter, and the Wakita Museum of Art (Japan). His work is held in major collections such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Eli Broad Family Foundation. He is a recipient of grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, Pollock-Krasner Foundation, NEA, and others, and is Professor of Graduate Fine Arts at Pratt Institute.
