Angela Dufresne is a painter and video artist originally from Connecticut and raised in Olathe, Kansas. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and in the Catskills. Her practice explores non-hierarchical, joyful, and polymorphous ways of being in a world shaped by fear, power, and possession, using painting, drawing, and performative works to create expansive, heterotopic narratives.
Dufresne has exhibited widely, including at the Hammer Museum, MoMA PS1, the RISD Museum, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Leslie-Lohman Museum, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, among many others. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2016 and awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Jerome Foundation. Her work is held in major public and private collections.
