China and Europe: a marriage of cultures
The visual artist Wang Yu in Siena to present her path between Mongolia, China and Italy
Tuesday, April 12th at 6pm will be a presentation at the Siena Art Institute with the young visual artist Wang Yu, the first in our spring season for the Siena Art Institute's weekly series of artists' talks "stARTers: assaggi d'arte", which for five years now has brought great names of contemporary art to Siena speak about their work. The presentation of Wang Yu also reconfirms an ongoing collaboration between the Siena Art Institute and the Università per Stranieri di Siena who participate in the current StARTers calendar with three meetings dedicated to intercultural exchange.
Wang Yu, originally from Mongolia, will present to the public her multifaceted artistic career: as a visual artist she creates spaces where natural elements are loaded with symbolic and cultural meanings, between Buddhism and quantum physics, European culture and ancient Chinese medicine. She does not focus on an abstract and ideal dimension, but the contemplation of reality, convinced that her analysis through the work of art is a way for the exploration of hidden meanings of nature.
The viewer in front of her works is called to participate in person through an unusual action, like ringing a bell, so interacting with another reality generated by the work of art. In this artistic and contemplative space, cultural differences and values of East and West meet in universal symbols such as Water, Earth, Fire, Wood and Metal, the elements of ancient Chinese tradition, and blend in a cultural marriage.
The presentation at the Siena Art Institute with Wang Yu is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 at 6pm on the first floor of Via Tommaso Pendola 37. Refreshments will be offered to the public at the end of the conversation. The meeting, organized in collaboration with the Università per Stranieri di Siena, will be in Italian with synopsis offered in Chinese.
