Nico Joana Weber (b.1983 in Bonn, Germany) studied at Goldsmiths College in London and undertook her postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. In 2016 she is the recipient of the Villa Romana Prize. Weber's films and complex video installations explore modernist architectures and landscapes, subjective uses and processes of transformation. Locations as varied as Le Corbusier's Villa Lipchitz, the Amazonian rainforest, a brutalist university campus and the Bolivian salt desert serve as starting points for her work that is characterised by calm and almost photographic contemplation. In her talk she will trace the development of her moving image work and show (an excerpt of) her most recent film 'Unstable Landscape' which deals with the intrinsic relationship between architecture and tropical vegetation in South America.
