Designer Magdalena Maślerz in residence Sept 2018

Magdalena Maślerz, goldsmith specialised in bone jewellery and a teacher of goldsmithing based in Kraków, Poland, will be in residence at the Siena Art Institute for the month of September 2018.

Magdalena Maślerz's artistic career began at Pedagogical University of Kraków where she attained Master of Fine Arts Degree. Both this and receiving the title of Master of Goldsmithing-stonesetting led to foundation of the first school of jewelry making (Szkoła Złotnictwa Xerion) in Kraków. She teaches there daily and helps young professionals to develop their craftsmanship.

In her artistic work she explores world of bones and animal origin materials. She wants to show the people materials different from ivory and tortoiseshell but even more precious. Her works include bones of species like roe deer, cats, dogs, geese, fish and many others. She acknowledges importance of creating practical, wearable objects. 

She participated in group exhibitions including: Nature Morte international jewellery exhibition that was shown in Vilnius, Lithuania, Silver Festival Legnica (Legnica, Poland), Ramybės galerija (Palanga, Lithuania) and Vilnius Academy of Arts Telšiai gallery (Vilnius, Lithuania), Most Excellent! jewellery_art for heroes international exhibition of jewelry in Chemnitz, Germany, Beijing InternationalContemporary Metal&Jewellery Art Exhibition BIC-MAJAin China, mineralART 2014: "between layers - worlds within agate"(jewellery), in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.

Magdalena Maślerz is a finalist of the 26th International Legnica Jewellery Competition IDENTITY and 24th International Legnica Jewellery Competition BOUNDARIES in Legnica, Poland.

Her works are included in the book of Mark Fenn: “Narrative Jewelry: Tales from the Toolbox”.
