Artists talk with Irit Baniel & Ron Baron
Irit Baniel & Ron Baron spoke last night about their multi-faceted artistic careers with our summer study abroad students from our Brandeis-In-Siena program. Thanks so much for letting us "behind-the-scenes" and sharing your inspiration and artwork with us!
Irit Baniel is a multi-disciplinary creative and artists, based in Brooklyn, New York. Baniel grew up in Tel Aviv and studied art & design extensively in the areas of Fashion, Product and Communication Design. Throughout numerous years of working in New York, Baniel has had the privilege of collaborating with leading brands such as Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder, Victoria’s Secret to name a few. Today, Baniel is running her own independent studio and continues to work in the areas she loves.
Ron Baron has shown his work nationally and internationally since 1989 and completed over 25 public art projects throughout the United States. His public art is site-specific and develops around themes that have a strong interrelationship with the local community, culture and history. Many of Baron’s sculptures are composed of an amalgamation of artifacts and detritus that are layered and stacked to create forms that suggest vessels, monoliths, trophies, archeological digs and geological strata. Baron has won numerous awards including, New York Foundation for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, Pollock-Krasner, Yaddo Endowed Residency and a Lila Wallace Endowed Residency at the Monet Museum in Giverny, France. His work has been included in a variety of books, periodicals and websites such as the New York Times, Art in America, Artforum, ArtCritical, HyperAllergic, Brooklyn Rail, MTA Arts for Transit, Confrontational Ceramics and Hands in Clay.
